I want my blog posts to be relevant and helpful to improving your life. I want to teach you how to be healthy, how to lose weight and how to be inspired by your Creator.

The above photo of Sandra and me was taken in November of 2015, on our 50th wedding anniversary. At that time, I weighed 275 pounds. In the year of 2019, I have lost 100 pounds, and Sandra has lost weight as well.

I told you already that I have been a minister for 50 years. And I want you to know immediately that this is a non-denominational blog. I feel that people of all faiths need the inspiration, motivation and training to live healthy lives.

Please read carefully as I explain why I feel this way.

Last November of 2018, I had to go to my rheumatologist. He told me I was near death and that if I had have not come to see him when I did to receive treatment, that I would not live another year. I was shocked, to say the least. I had gone to see the doctor because I thought I simply had arthritis in my hands and it seemed to be getting worse. After over 4 hours of all kinds of tests the doctor revealed to me that he had found my problem. I had gout all over my body. He said it was one of the worst cases he had ever seen and that I had had it for a long time, probably 10 to 15 years. That’s when he told me that people can die from gout just like they can die from cancer. I had given the doctor a list of all my medical records and procedures going back at least 20 years. He told me that the reason for many of my problems was being too overweight. Actually I was obese. I was 5′-10″ and weighed 275 pounds. I was 100 pounds overweight.

The doctor was my age and told me that he also had gout and that he had had it for many years. But he had learned how to keep his under control. He told me he had been 60 pounds overweight and that it took him two years to lose the excess weight. Being over weight had affected his knees. He had lost 60% of the cartilage in his knees and had trouble and pain when walking.

I had revealed to the doctor that I could hardly walk. My knees had worn out all the cartilage and I was walking bone to bone. It was very painful. In addition to my knee problems I had had to have a complete right hip replacement 3 years earlier. And my hip was still infected with staph and it was still very painful to walk. I am still taking pain pills for the knees and hip problem. The doctor said that all those problems with my knees and hip (but not the infection) were probably caused by being  too much overweight.

The doctor told me he could save my life if I would follow his directions. He said he could do the easy things like give me advice and prescribe medicines, but that I would have to do the hard things such as lose the excess weight, take lots of medicines and stay on a proper diet. I told him I would do everything he told me to do. And I have. Including losing 100 pound of excess weight. That was 36% of my maximum body weight.
I feel like a new man. (I’ll soon have some before and after photos posted.) Not only was I overweight which caused the knee and hip problems and probably the gout, too. But I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, was tired all the time and had no energy. I was living a very sedentary life style. No wonder I kept gaining weight. And I was worried and under stress most of the time.

Losing weight won’t solve all of your health problems, but it has sure helped me.

I realized as the Apostle Paul told the Corinthians  in 1 Cor. 3:16 and 1 Cor 6:19 (to paraphrase) “Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It belongs to God, not you.”

When I first moved to Longview, Texas last February 2019 I thought I was moving here to die. Literally. But my wife kept telling me, “If you follow the doctor’s instructions, you’re not going to die. God did not move us out here for you to die. He has work for you to do out here.”

So in about May of 2019 I started feeling better physically and mentally and started getting the idea of writing a blog about health, weight loss and inspiration. This blog won’t be preachy or critical. It will be encouraging and uplifting. I’ll teach you how I lost the 100 pounds. Hint: It wasn’t a t.v. diet. I am writing an ebook about it right now. I’ll be selling it on this site as well as some other books and products relating to health, weight loss and inspiration.

By the way, this site is a labor of love. It is a non-profit. I’ll be selling some items directly and through affiliate sales just to pay overhead expenses, etc.

First, I dedicate this blog to God my Creator who made me and gave me all my talents. Secondly, I dedicate this blog to my wife of 53 years, Sandra. She has more faith than anyone I know. Without her prayers and encouragement the past few years  I’m certain I would be dead.

Please keep up with all the blog posts. Hope you’ll subscribe.
